Water is an essential substance for living organisms

As we all know our body depends on water to survive. Every cell, tissue, and organ in our body needs water to work properly. Water is essential for overall good health.
Experts say – Hydration is important because the body is comprised mostly of water, and the proper balance between water and electrolytes in your bodies really determines how most of our systems function, including nerves and muscles. So we should drink water every day.

How much body required water?

The question is how much body required water & the answer is different people need different amounts of water to stay hydrated. Studies have produced varying recommendations over the years. But your individual water needs depend on many factors, including your health, how active you are and where you live. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined that an adequate daily fluid intake is:

  • About 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids for men
  • About 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids a day for women

These recommendations cover fluids from water, other beverages and food. About 20 percent of daily fluid intake usually comes from food and the rest from drinks.

The ideal body water percentage varies. It is influenced by different factors. Gender, age and body composition affect this percentage. In general, women have a lower body water percentage than men. This is because women have more tissue than men. The ideal percentage for adult women will fluctuate between 45 and 60%, while the ideal percentage for adult men will be between 50 and 65% of the total body.

Dehydration & home remedies

Dehydration is a condition that can occur when the loss of body fluids, mostly water, exceeds the amount that is taken in.

  • Sip small amounts of water.
  • Drink carbohydrate/electrolyte-containing drinks & fruit juices.
  • Drink coconut water – Coconut water is high in sodium and potassium, the levels of which are often depleted when you are dehydrated.
  • Add Banana in your diet – Bananas have high potassium content and can help replenish its levels and combat dehydration
  • Drink Buttermilk – Buttermilk is a natural probiotic. It is rich in minerals such as potassium and magnesium that are often depleted when you sweat excessively and become dehydrated
  • Drink soups – Soups are good sources of nutrients that can help in dealing with dehydration and its symptoms.

Overall to keep hydrated drink plenty of water a couple of hours before bed and upon waking.
